March Break fun!

March break snuck up on me this year.
I usually feel stressed about what to do with the kids, but this year they seemed quite content to stick around the house. We did have a few trips out shopping and to the mini mall. The beginning of the week was snowy and even though we are all sick of winter by the time March break gets here, you could see the beauty

Next day it warmed up and almost all the snow melted.
A puddle on the lawn this time of year always gives us hope for a skating rink.
It didn't happen right away, so we turned our attention to our seldom used pellet gun.
Country Boy was a great shot and hit the target every time! Isn't he too cool in his crocks? LOL
(In all fairness, we were all fashion statements on this day ... it was laundry day!)
Big Country Girl giving Little Country Girl a lesson. This was her first time!

Later in the week we were lucky to have a few cold days and our puddle turned into a skating rink.
The skating lessons are paying off!
A couple of great days to skate!
The week ended off with me falling and hitting my head.
A trip to the ER and 5 staples later, I am as good as new ;)
Back to school for the kids today.
2 days until spring and it can't come soon enough for me.
Gardening is so much safer!

Where have I been?

I've been posting very little lately.
Where have I been?
I have been here, at home, doing nothing.
Yup, that's right ... nothing!
Well, not really nothing, but nothing exciting.
It's seems my life right now is in such a routine that it is hard to break free.
I've spent the past few months hidden away here, cleaning, cooking, eating, sleeping.
No projects on the go, no renovations, no new recipes, no gardening.
I just haven't had anything to SAY!
Since there is another major snowstorm on the way to southern Ontario tonight, I will still be stuck here, in my rut.
Wake me up when spring gets here!

A blast of winter - February 8th

The winter of 2012 was uneventful, but a winter storm snapped us back to reality on February 8th.
Heavy snowfall and strong winds reminded us what Canadian winters are all about.
Part way thru the storm I went out to shovel the walkway and the snow was over my boots!
The wind was blowing snow and people were advised not to travel
It snowed and blew through the night. In the morning, the snow was deep and the sun was shining.
My basement window
I wish I had a photo of the snow blocking the doorway when it was opened. The snow was piled up as high as the door handle! After we dug our way out, it took several hours before the driveway was clear and walkways were done. I brought a fresh supply of firewood into the house and then went outside to enjoy the sunny day. For only the second time in 10 years I strapped on the snowshoes and went for a little walk.
The new snow sure makes everything look fresh and clean, don't you think?
